Evening Land Gamay Noir 2009, Eola-Amity Hills
Beaujolais in Oregon! And I’m not talking Beaujolais Villages, I’m not even talking Morgon, I’m talking ‘Cote du Py’ Morgon. If you don’t know what that is…look it up, research is good for you. I was amazed by the quality of this Gamay Noir produced by Dominique Lafon (again, don’t know who he is?...) and his winemaking team at Evening Land Vineyards. Plush red cherries, dusty volcanic minerals and subtle floral notes combine to give this wine a nose that makes the mouth jealous with anticipation. And eventually, when the mouth gets it share, the aromatic promises just made do not disappoint. The wine has an incredibly sexy, velvety, texture and gorgeous length, all leading towards an effortless finish. I can’t wait to take this home and polish a bottle, or two.
