Brick House Pinot Noir 2008 - Les Dijonnais
I generally think of Oregon pinot noir as a wine that gives a lot of pleasure in its youth, and while they can develop with some bottle age, I tend to drink them young. 2008 will change that. When I tasted this wine I was struck by its aromas of red fruits, spice and a bit if fresh forest floor. Dare I say Burgundian? But then it struck me; I have long heard Piemontese wine makers comparing nebbiolo to pinot noir. Intellectually I understood what they were saying but I had never applied it to Oregon pinot; until I tasted this wine. Though it lacks the tannin of nebbiolo, this wine showed a haunting fruit quality, one that will only reveal itself over time. If opened now it needs time to reveal itself but its true place is in the cellar for several years.
