Pomum Tinto 2007
The simple name of this wine belies what is in the bottle (72% tempranillo, 16% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot). When I first tasted it at Taste Washington I was impressed by its combination of depth and balance and the fact that when I tasted it, it reminded me of a well made Spanish wine. Ok, maybe the fact that the wine maker is Spanish may have influenced me a bit. But I brought a bottle to the shop for the crew to taste and my impression was the same, sans winemaker. With its rich, minerally fruit character, good structure and modest use of oak it is an ideal wine for a piece of grilled meat.
