Domane des Ouleb Thaleb Syrocco 2007 - Morocco
We get asked for Moroccan wines fairly frequently but have never really had anything to offer, until now. This wine is made by Alain Graillot, a respected producer of Crozes Hermitage in the northern Rhone. He discovered this Domaine on a bike trip in 2004 and was convinced that good syrah could be produced from vineyards near the towns of Rummani and Binsliman, because of the relatively cool climate owed in part to its proximity to the ocean and an altitude of about 1500 feet. The wine shows distinct, northern Rhone influenced syrah character, with a bit fruiter component and a lush but balanced texture. At $17.99 I though it was a fine value and certainly would be fun to pull out and surprise your wine geek friends.
